Record specific jurisdiction information using the carrier's quarterly IFTA tax return, including total mileage and fuel consumption, and information specific to each jurisdiction. The screen also displays basic fleet information as it applies to this quarterly report. The jurisdiction column and effective date is pre-populated for the specific year, quarter and fuel type. Only dates that are different from the beginning of the quarter appear. Note: If the carrier enters only the total miles traveled and total fuel consumed (tax return information from Page 1 Line item A and B), the return is saved and the return status is non-computable. The carrier is treated as a non-filer.
1. Enter the total miles traveled from Page 1 Line A of the carrier's quarterly return, for both IFTA and non-IFTA jurisdictions.
2. Enter the total fuel consumed from Page 1 Line B of the carrier's quarterly return, for both IFTA and non-IFTA jurisdictions.
3. The system calculates the average miles-per-gallon (by dividing Line A by Line B) and displays the result in the AVG MILES PER GALLON field, rounded to two decimal places. The MGP must be greater the 4 MPG and less than 10 MPG. The FSD states, "This is a hard edit for the WEB user." Does that mean they have to calculate it themselves and enter it?
4. For each jurisdiction where activity has occurred, complete the MILES, TAXABLE MILES and GALLONS PURCHASED fields (as described below), taking the information from the carrier's quarterly return.
5. MCS User Only: Check OVERRIDE EDITS, if applicable. This option is used if the return does not pass the base edits for a quarterly return and you decide to save the return and come back to it later using the supplement continuance option. Once a corrected return is received from the customer, you can correct the information to ensure the tax return passes the base edits making the return computable. This process is different from an amended tax return.
6. Click SUBMIT. If there are no errors, click SUBMIT to confirm.
